Routine- the word gets so much press (someone direct us to its PR people. Please), but are they really all they’re cracked up to be?
We’ve been flooded recently with people getting up at 5AM, telling you to drink greens, dunk yourself in ice and run more (why is running back?). But, in amongst all of the ‘fads’ that come through the gram, we’re thinking that we can put our own little spin onto routines, and that we can build them to suit ourselves, rather than have to follow other people’s.
Routines mean structure and rigidity (something I’m personally not great with!), but what if we actually started to look at routines as a way to add more joy into our lives?
What makes you happy? Reading? GREAT. Why not add 5-10 minutes of reading into your morning. You love to dance to your current favourite track? FAB- whack it in that routine. Surely building a habit of including more fun things into your day is only a good way to go? AND to start this now before the kick off and chaos of the festive season means we’ll be going into that time of year feeling refreshed, rested and able to be fully present with our loved ones instead of burnt out and forgotten.
Here’s how my Sunday weekly routine is going to be looking in the build up to festive season beginning:
* Get myself some of my favourite tea (the fancier the better), and I only drink it when I’m taking time out to plan my week ahead- like a little pocket of time to slow down & enjoy Every Sunday, I call a different friend- catch ups don’t have to be long or in person, we can do 10 minute chats to check in with one another and I feel way more connected afterwards.
What fun things will you be putting into your weekly routine? Get in touch to share your ideas – let’s create more joy in our days!

treat yourself
This year, I’m getting an advent calendar that actually increases wellbeing and feel good factor- I’m getting our LKC advent calendar for all of the aromatherapy benefits. There are 4 candles- one for each week in the build up to Xmas, and a key pillar in my Sunday’s to remind me to slow down and take some time for me.

brain dump
Brain dump – MY favourite version of journalling, no questions or structure, just free thought to get it out of my head and onto the page. I find thoughts from my week come out, including moments I valued and indicate to me what I want to include more of moving forward.

be unproductive
Giving myself the first hour/30minutes/10 minutes of the day (whatever I can do)- that’s right, nothing to achieve, not to be productive- this is to do something that I find enjoyable (I’m currently trying to learn the drums, so this is time for me to do just that- to play!)

slow down

reconnect
Every Sunday, I call a different friend- catch ups don’t have to be long or in person, we can do 10 minute chats to check in with one another and I feel way more connected afterwards.
Failing that, why not send a loved one a personalised gift to show them you’re thinking of them?
