how to rest, recharge and refresh this Autumn

Here at LKC, we love the transition from the pace and social elements of Summer, to starting to slow down, rein ourselves in and start enjoying simpler things in our home again.

Blankets, books and candles on the sofa. A hot chocolate next to the fire. Watching the colours of the leaves change and then fall. We notice everything around us begins to slow down, but as people, we all tend to keep trying to run at Summer pace, 100mph every day. Nature teaches us that everything moves is cycles, and we need to rest and recharge more, ease off the accelerator, and check in with ourselves.

Easier said than done, we know, so we’ve brought some of our ways to move with the seasons to your inbox today to offer a helping hand.

free up brain space

Sometimes, we have so much to do that we can’t rest because our minds are running through the to do list, despite us being ‘off the clock’. So our answer is to get is all out of our heads.

I’m a lover of a planner, but if you’re more digital, your phones notes will do- get every thought out, write it all down, and then you’ll find you have a calmer headspace, and can relax a little more.

If you’re in need of a planner but don’t know where to start, we recommend Ponderlily’s collection of eco-friendly planners.

eat seasonally

It’s not always possible (juggling homework time, cooking and bed times with little ones makes this a little trickier!), but the benefits of trying to eat more seasonally have meant that we’ve been trying to incorporate more in season, fresh foods in our diets.

Find out what’s in season here >

Not only does this reduce our carbon footprint, but also means that we start to cook more of the meals that bring us comfort and ‘cosy vibes’ towards this time of year (Stews, chilli, soups). Find some meal inspo here.

'cosi-fy' your space

Blankets, layers, textures, cushions, all of the cosy vibes will help support you with hunkering down for autumn. Try to keep work and rest spaces separate so that your brain starts associating your rest space with truly unwinding.

We’re of course big advocates of using candle light to mood light these spaces and accompanied by soothing scents of essential oils is even better. Our scented candles are a great choice!

Our favourite scent for Autumn is definitely our NOM lemongrass and ginger candle. Light enough for the last days of Summer but infused with warming ginger and patchouli, this spicy yet fresh scent will give you all the cosy vibes.

create an 'undone' list

How much on your to do list is urgent? I know, ‘it’s all urgent’, but really and truly, how much needs to be done right now and in this moment?

An undone list has been so helpful for me, because I’m definitely someone who just keeps adding things to my ‘to do’ list and then feels overwhelmed by it all.

An undone list is moving everything non-urgent across into a ‘b list’ that you can pick up at a later point. This means that your urgent to do list becomes manageable, accessible and way less overwhelming.

If you love writing lists as much as I do, you need to check out our recommended notepads to help you stay on top of your lists. What’s more, these notepads are refillable, made with vegan leather and can be personalised too.
